Each week, I aim to share something fresh from my heart—something the Lord has shown me. If it helps me, maybe it will help others too.

This week, a phrase struck me. It came from a sermon by Damon Thompson, who has helped me understand beloved identity. The phrase is: “realign your emotions with His presence.”

Our struggles often stem from our emotions. Facts are facts, but how we feel about them shapes our experience.

We need to realign our emotions with His presence, with the truth that He is there for us. Remember the gospel story of the woman whose son had died in Luke 7:11-17. On their way to bury him, Jesus told her, “Do not weep”.

What? Of course, she is weeping… naturally, she is distraught because her son just died, not to mention the economic and social repercussions of that. But Jesus called her to recognize His presence over her circumstances. Once she did, her son was raised.

Jesus's work that day wasn't just the son's resurrection; He called her out of her reality into his. She was able to realign her emotions with Jesus' presence.

When we do that, no matter what we're facing, it's like building our house on rock—tethering ourselves to something immovable.

Often, our emotional torment comes from mistaking feelings for truth. But when we recognize His presence right beside us, we're less swayed by life's waves.

We don't have to wait for negative emotions to do this! Even our good feelings need to acknowledge His presence and see Him as the source. This results in gratitude. Every day, every minute, we should realign all our emotions and thoughts to His presence.

It's a daily practice; as we get better at it, we fulfill what He calls us to do.
That's what it means for Him to be our Lord.

I created a phone wallpaper to remind myself, and figured it might help you too.
