Made you squint! 😆

it's easy

If you had to make someone squint, what would you do?

What are your options?

You could teach them about the mechanics of squinting and the muscles around the eyes that allow your eyelids to squeeze.

You could talk to them about how to squint without messing up their makeup or creating wrinkles.

You could discuss the culture of squinting, its benefits, and how it could improve their lives.

You could take them to a squinting conference or teach them with books about squinting.

You could sell books or show videos of expert squinters and professionals.

Or... you could lift their heads, raise their eyes, and tell them to look at the sun.

Do not just tell them ABOUT the sun.

Get them to actually LOOK at the sun.

If they dare to, they will squint.

As worship leaders, we often complicate things and lose focus on what's important.

We get caught up in the details, like mechanics, production - and Greek & Hebrew words for this and that.

It's funny because the Holy Spirit, just says, Look at Him - Jesus.

The Holy Spirit has one job - to glorify Jesus. One job.

Why do we think we have another?

The Holy Spirit lifts our heads and opens our eyes so we can see Jesus.

When we see Him, we worship. Simple.

So maybe we stop trying to be great at "leading worship", and focus on getting really good at "leading people to meet Jesus".

We use songs, we use teams, we use production, we use whatever we can to facilitate the people in front of us having an unobstructed view of Jesus.

Did we help them encounter Jesus as they sang?

Corporate encounter.

And the truth is, encounter it's not something far off & illussive.

It can happen right now because Jesus promised to be with us wherever two or more are gathered in His name.

If He's in our midst, all we have to do is look at Him.

All we have to do is be still and look - He's not hiding from those who eagerly seek Him out.

When you see him, worship is natural and easy. It flows.

So maybe next time, all you have to do is stop leading worship and lead them to Jesus.

Like I said, it's simple - but not easy. Let's learn how to get good at it.

If you want to squint, look at the sun.

If you want to worship, look at the Son.

If you want them to worship, help them look at the Son.
